SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State hockey student-athlete Pierre-Luc Veillette has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week, as announced by the Lake Superior State athletic department on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Veillette, a sophomore forward from Drummondville, Quebec, led the Lakers to a win and a tie against the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves in a home series on Jan. 24 and 25. The Laker forward scored the game winning goal on Friday night with 1:03 left in the third period to give the Lakers the WCHA victory. In Saturday’s game, Veillette notched an assist on the game’s first goal to extend his point streak to three games, dating back to Jan. 11. In the second overtime of Saturday’s game, which counts for WCHA purposes only, Veillette scored to give the Lakers the extra conference point. The psychology major has set new career highs in goals (8), assists (9) and points (17) this season.

It is the first time that Veillette has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week in his career.

Veillette was a member of the Jr. Senators during the 2017-2018 season recording 33 goals, 32 assists for 65 points in 61 games on route to a Bogart Cup and Fred Page cup in his lone CCHL season.
