ALUMNI WATCH | GREG MEIRELES NAMED CO-CAPTAIN OF THE KITCHENER RANGERS FOR 2019-2020

Ottawa, ON – With the Ontario Hockey League season underway, the Kitchener Rangers have named former Jr. Senator Greg Meireles (2014-2016) a co-captain for the 2019-2020 season.

Meireles, 20, is entering his final season of junior after spending parts of two seasons to begin his career with the Jr. Senators, then to move onto the OHL with the Kitchener Rangers.

He will share the duties alongside Dallas Stars prospect Riley Damiani, who is also entering his fourth season with the Rangers.

In 50 games with the Jr. Senators, Meireles recorded seven goals and 28 assists for 35 points in the regular season, followed by four goals and eight assists in 21 career playoff games.

So far in four-plus seasons with the Rangers, he has recorded 68 goals, 106 assists for 174 points in 196 career games.

This past June, Meireles was selected in the sixth round, 168th overall by the Florida Panthers, coming off a career-high 36 goals and 61 assists. His 97 points ranked 10th in the OHL last season.

Meireles will play one final regular-season game against his hometown Ottawa 67’s on Friday, October 25th.
