Ben Reinhardt and Chris Kushneriuk announce departure from organization

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON – Assistant Coach’s Ben Reinhardt and Chris Kushneriuk announced their departures from the Ottawa Jr. Senators on Thursday following a combined nine years behind the OJS bench.

Ben Reinhardt joined the organization prior to the 2019-2020 season after coaching the Pembroke Lumber Kings as an Assistant between 2016-2018. With the Jr. Senators, he overlooked the defence during games and help with the power play. The Arnprior native played five years in the CCHL with the dynasty Pembroke Lumber Kings who won five consecutive Bogart Cups between 2007-2011, two Fred Page Cups, and one RBC Cup in 2011. Collected 15 goals, 60 assists, 75 points with Pembroke in his career before playing 4 years of NCAA Division 1 hockey with the University of Alabama-Huntsville. On January 29th, 2012, his #8 jersey was retired at the Pembroke Memorial Centre. To this day, he is only the second player in Lumber Kings history to have his jersey retired.

Chris Kushneriuk has been with the organization almost since day one of the Martin Dagenais/Jamie Mayo era. He was in charge of special teams for a number of years and brought a lot of energy and passion behind the bench. As a player, Kushneriuk suited up for the Kanata Stallions and Orleans Blues in the mid-2000s before attending Robert Morris NCAA D-1 University for three seasons. He was their team captain in 2010-11 scoring 20 points in 29 games. Kushneriuk finished his NCAA career with 148 points in 165 games. After graduating from Robert Morris, he played five seasons in the ECHL, totaling 72 points in 135 games. Kushneriuk is also an inspiration for the players as he has beaten cancer twice. It’s pretty obvious that nothing can stop him.

“It’s always tough to lose two coaches with such dedication and character as Kush and Ben,” said Jr. Senators Associate Coach and General Manager Jamie Mayo. “Their contributions to the success of our program over the years are immeasurable. I wish Kush good luck as his business ventures take more of a priority in his life. Ben and his wife Jackie have welcomed a baby boy into their family recently so it is understandable that Ben wants to prioritize family time over the hockey grind for this season.”

The Ottawa Jr. Senators organization thanks Ben and Chris for their dedication to the team and wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors.
