Blacksmith Commits to Carleton University for 2018-19 Season

Ottawa, Ont – The Central Canada Hockey League and Ottawa Junior Senators are pleased to announce that ’97 born forward, Chiwetin Blacksmith has committed to the Carleton University Ravens for the 2018-19 season.

Blacksmith, 20, currently leads the league in assists (32), power-play assists (18) and is third in points (43) over 32 games for the Ottawa Jr. Senators.

“We are very excited for Chiwetin to further develop his skills at a great program like Carleton” said Jr. Sens assistant coach, Jamie Mayo. “The Ravens staff will like his dynamic offensive play making ability. He has been a catalyst for club offensively and has helped push our power-play to number one in the league”.

The Waswanipi, Que native previously spent parts of three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey league. Splitting time between the Barrie Colts and Gatineau Olympiques, where he tallied 21 points in 82 games.

I chose Carleton because the hockey program is phenomenal, I loved the environment when I went for a visit and it also gives me a chance to continue my studies and play hockey at a University level”said Blacksmith on his commitment.”Ottawa has also become a home away from home”.

Ottawa’s top scorer joined the Jr. Sens late last season and 17 points in 23 games. Over parts of two seasons with OJS, Blacksmith has scored 63 points (22G/41A) in 59 games.
