Commitment Alert | Jr Senators Michael Thomas heading to NCAA D3 Colby College

Ottawa, ON – The Central Canada Hockey League and Ottawa Jr Senators are pleased to announce that ’97 born defenseman Michael Thomas has verbally committed to attend NCAA D3 Colby College this coming fall.

The Chicago, IL native spent parts of two seasons between the Jr Senators and Nepean Raiders, totalling 47 points (7G, 40A) in 92 combined regular season and playoff games. He was named to the Fred Page Cup All-Star Team after leading all tournament blue-liners in scoring with 4 points (1G, 3A) in 4 games of action.

“Michael was arguably the best defenseman in the CCHL in the last three months of the season,” said Jr Senators Head Coach Martin Dagenais. “We are thrilled that he will continue to play hockey at a high level. Colby College is a great academic school, which was a big reason he decided to turn down three offers from NCAA D1 programs. He will be dominant in D3 hockey right from the beginning, and we are hopeful to see him begin a professional career after he completes his degree.”

Prior to his time in the CCHL, Thomas played four seasons for Lake Forest Academy of the Midwest Prep Hockey League.

Colby College is located in Waterville, ME, and is a member of the NCAA D3 New England Small College Athletic Conference.  They finished with a 17-11-2 record in 2017-18, winning their first ever NESCAC title and advancing to the Frozen Four, where they would lose in the Semi Finals to eventually champion St. Norbert.
