COMMITMENT ALERT | Lukash Matthews and Mackenzie White commit to USports Carleton University

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Jr. Senators are proud to announce the commitments of defenceman Lukash Matthews and forward Mackenzie White to USports Carleton University (Ottawa, ON).

Matthews, 21, joined the Jr. Senators in June of 2020 in a trade with the Renfrew Wolves. As a Jr. Senator, Matthews appeared in seven developmental scrimmage games with OJS, tallying a goal and four helpers.

In junior hockey, the Ottawa native spent parts of four seasons with the Rockland Nationals, Kanata Lasers, and Ottawa Jr. Senators scoring 10 times while adding 34 assists in 111 regular-season games.

Before cracking the CCHL, Matthews skated with the Ottawa Jr. Canadians, playing 31 games and registered 14 points (five goals and 9 assists). Matthews came up through the Nepean Raiders u18 program.

“I want to thank all my previous coaches, teammates, and training staff who have helped me throughout my career,” said Matthews. “Playing for Martin Dagenais and OJS this past year really helped me prepare for university hockey. I really enjoyed my time with OJS and I look forward to pursuing education and contributing to a top-ranked program at Carleton.

White, 21, came to the Jr. Senators as a free agent for the 2019-2020 season. In 51 games wearing the red, white, and blue, the Nepean native tallied five goals and 16 assists.

Over three seasons in the CCHL, White suited up for the Nepean Raiders, Kanata Lasers, Smiths Falls Bears, and Ottawa JrS, scoring eight goals and 27 assists in 94 career games. He also spent time in the OJHL with the Kingston Voyageurs, recording a goal and assist in seven games.

Another graduate of HEO u18 AAA, White also played with the Nepean Raiders u18 team, serving as team captain in 2016-17. A two-time all-star at the u18 level, White notched 31 goals and 36 assists in 90 career games.

“I had a great time playing for OJS,” said White. “I want to thank my teammates and the coaching staff for a great year and it’s too bad it got cut short, but I’m really looking forward to taking the next step in my career at Carleton.”
