Desmarais solid as Jr. Senators win sixth straight

Ottawa, ON – Led by a strong performance in goal from 20-year old William Desmarais, the Jr. Senators used the momentum from their netminder to grind out a 3-1 win Saturday over Renfrew.

After a much better overall start for Kyle Makaric’s squad, Wil Murphy got the lone marker in the opening 20 minutes of play off the stretch pass from D-partner Bodie Nobes. Murphy’s goal at 8:31 marked his fourth of the season and second against the Wolves this season.

The Jr. Senators relied on what needed to be their best defender in the opening stages of the second, as Desmarais made 14 second period stops to keep the Wolves at bay and the home side up a goal heading into the final frame.

The second period saw OJS having to kill off four Wolves powerplays, which included a 49 second 5-on-3 early in the frame.

Mathieu Parent equaled the score as the halfway point of the third neared before recent RIT commit Philippe Jacques replied 45 seconds later which proved to be the winner.

As OJS fended off the Wolves attack in the dying stages – Thomas Freel, Simon Isabelle, and Julian Recine went to work holding the puck in the attacking zone for the balance of the game, when Freel put the icing on the cake with his 19th of the year with three seconds to play.

William Desmarais made 31 stops in the win, while Wolves starter Sebastian Resar turned aside 29.

The Jr. Senators went 0-for-5 on the man advantage while the Wolves went 0-for-5.

The Ottawa Jr. Senators return to the ice Wednesday night at the Jim Durrell Recreation Complex to face the Brockville Braves with puck drop scheduled for 7:20 PM. Catch all the action with Davide Disipio and Mason Detre on the Jr. Senators Broadcast Network at Mixlr.com/OJSradio and on Hockey TV.
