“Heron Gate Community Game” a Huge Success

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Junior Senators and the Heron Gate community both came up winners at the Jim Durrell Complex on Tuesday afternoon. On the ice, the Junior Senators picked up their fourth consecutive victory with a 5-2 win over the visiting Cornwall Colts while off the ice the organization welcomed hundreds of residents from the community surrounding the arena which the team calls home.

“I am feeling overwhelmed with the generosity of so many special people and business owners,” said Jr. Senators General Manager and Associate Coach Jamie Mayo. “It is unbelievably rewarding to see the number of children and families we were able to help during these times of the rising costs of everything. It was great to get the win but that pales to the win that was seeing the smiles of parents and kids.”

In front of 585 spectators, the largest crowd of the season, the Senators were led by Anthony Provost who paced the offence with a goal and an assist while Simon Isabelle and Wil Murphy chipped in with a pair of assists. Zachary Bowen got the start between the pipes and stopped 21 of 23 shots to earn his third victory of the year.

The players felt the energy from the large contingent of families from the Heron Gate community as tickets were distributed to Prince of Peace, Featherston Drive, Charles H. Hulse, and Ecole Marius Barbeau schools the week prior.  The Junior Senators, through donations from local individuals and businesses, were able to help over 50 families in the area by presenting them with gift cards for groceries and other essential items.
