Jack Matsukubo Commits to St. Olaf College

Earlier this week, Ottawa Jr Senators top scorer Jack Matsukubo announced his commitment to play NCAA Div III hockey for St. Olaf College next season.

“I’m extremely excited,” said Matsukubo. “They have a great hockey program with tons of support and a great coaching staff. It’s also a great school where I can get a great education.”

The 2004-born forward started his CCHL career with the Nepean Raiders during the 2022-23 season. In 53 games, he recorded 12 goals and 17 assists for a total of 29 points.

The following season, he left the CCHL choosing to play instead for the Jersey Hitmen in the NCDC. He led the team in points, scoring 20 goals and tallying 18 assists in 52 games. During his time with the Hitmen, Matsukubo played briefly with Justin Ouellette, who would go on to be his linemate in Ottawa the following season.

He returned to Ottawa after the Jr Senators acquired his rights from the Nepean Raiders during the offseason.

His final year in the CCHL was a complete triumph. He played in all 55 games and scored 38 goals, which was third-most in the league, on his way to a 64-point finish. At times he placed the team on his back coming up with goals when they needed them most. In total, he accounted for a staggering 22 per cent of Ottawa’s goals this season.

Ultimately, Matsukubo’s story is one of determination. He took risks and played for three teams in three years in order to develop into an elite player in the CCHL.

The Jr Senators are proud to have had him as a member of our organization and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
