Jr. Senators crowned regular-season champions, take 2 of 3

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Jr. Senators (40-6-4) picked up victories against Kemptville and Brockville. Ottawa’s only loss this week came against Navan. Ottawa finished the five-game home stand by going 4-1 and became regular-season champions for the first time since 2012-13. 

Tuesday: Ottawa 3, Kemptville 2

The Jr. Senators got off to a terrific start with Tomislav Brennan scoring his third of the season, but Kemptville would tie it up at one from Brock Krulicki through the opening 20. 

The only goal that Ottawa got was from Philippe Jacques in the second period. They would extend the lead from Julian Recine late in the third period. Savignac would score with 1:21 left in the third but Ottawa would come out on top. 

Ottawa has won seven consecutive games. They outshot Kemptville 33-23 and went 0-for-7 on the power play. Jacques and Racine each tally 1G/1A for a multi-point game. 

William Desmarais made 21 saves in the win. 

Wednesday: Navan 2, Ottawa 1

The road team now has all four games in the season series. After Ottawa played very well in the first by outshooting Navan 18-13, the Jr. Sens would be limited to only six shots in the second frame. 

Braden McKinnon scores the game’s first goal for Navan and then Cayden Faust would score on the power play. Navan had 14 shots during the second period and went 1-for-3 on the power play. 

Philippe Jacques scores his 30th of the season to cut the lead to one. The last three minutes were intense. Ottawa got a 5-on-3 power play at 5:00 left and the biggest chance they got was when Nobes hit the post from a shot at the right points. 

Ottawa would then take a check to the head penalty with 2:35 left and were able to kill it off, but then a penalty shot was called to Ottawa with 12 seconds left after one of the Navan defenders knocked the net off while the puck was played behind the net. Jacques would miss the penalty shot and their win streak came to an end. 

Ottawa outshot Navan 34-32 during the game. Ottawa went 0-for-5 on the power play while Navan’s power play went 1-for-3.

Zachary Bowen made 30 saves in his fourth career CCHL game and suffered his first loss as a call-up. 

Friday: Ottawa 5, Brockville 2

Ottawa would get off to a terrific start once again during the first period. With under two minutes left, Tomislav Brennan would tip in a point shot from Bodie Nobes. Ottawa outshot Brockville 17-6. 

The Jr. Sens would tack on two more goals from Julien Racine and Massimo Gentile. On the Gentile goal, Shane Moodie and Jacob Carroll would each collect their first point as a Jr. Senator. 

Colin Elliott would score shorthanded 53 seconds into the third period, but Ottawa responded back with a power-play goal from Vincent Velocci which gave Ottawa a three-goal lead. The Braves would then pull their goal for a 6-on-5 which would pay off. Justin Dauphinais would collect his 19th of the year. 

Thomas Freel snapped his four-game goalless drought by scoring an empty-net goal to seal the deal. With the win, Ottawa became regular-season champions for the first time since the 2012-13 season. 

Ottawa went 1-for-5 on the power play while Brockville’s man advantage was 0-for-3. The Jr. Senators outshot Brockville 38-18 while

William Desmarais made 16 saves in the win. Ottawa also sweeps the season series. 

The Jr. Senators are back in action on Wednesday night when they take on the Hawkesbury Hawks for the final time this season. Puck drops at 7:30pm at the Jim Durrell Recreation Complex.
