Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Jr. Senators came away with one of their most important wins of the season on Wednesday night as they downed the Pembroke Lumber Kings 5-2 and moved into sole possession of 6th place in the CCHL standings.

The main story line from Wednesday nights game was the return of OJS captain Owen Cole, who has been out of commission since November 16th with a leg injury.

After a back and forth 1st Period where both Bryan Landsberger and Reece Proulx had to stand tall between the pipes for both teams. Julien Recine opened the scoring for Ottawa in the 2nd Period on a wrist shot that deflected off Lumber Kings defense men Blair Battochio. Connor Smart and Ethan Mulhearn also found the back of the net in a dominant 2nd period for the Jr. Sens as they took a 3-1 lead into the locker room.

The 3rd Period was much the same for OJS as Owen Cole scored in his return to the lineup and his line mate Vincent Velocci also scored his 1st goal since returning to the ice, Ottawa out shot the Lumber Kings 24-6 in the 3rd Period alone and 51-29 on the night overall.

Jr. Senators captain Owen Cole was beyond excited to get back into the lineup.

“Yeah I’m just so excited to be back” said Cole. “Obviously it was a tough couple months, just watching the team and the fact that we were struggling a bit too, I just had so much energy to go out there and I think I showed that and my line mates were really good tonight feeding me the puck, just all around I think we played a really good game.”

Next up for the Jr. Senators is another important match up against the Hawkesbury Hawks from the Robert Hartley Sports Complex on Saturday night. Puck drop is set for 7:30 and the game can be heard on mixlr.com/ojsradio and seen on Hockey TV.
