Jr. Senators explode for seven goals in dominate 7-1 win over Navan

Ottawa, ON – For the second straight game the Ottawa Jr. Senators scored early and often as they took down the Navan Grads 7-1 on home ice.

Julien Recine opened the scoring early for the second straight game and Felix Schnell started his first game between the pipes since February 12th making 21 saves on the night.

Special teams were key for the Jr. Senators in the win as OJS killed off all five Navan power plays to go along with converting offensively on three out of the teams four PP attempts.

Assistant Coach Jamie Mayo was impressed by the teams play both on special teams and five on five.

“Anytime you can score three power play goals and kill off all your penalties you stand a good chance to win” said Mayo. “Besides the power play we are starting to get consistent contributions from some of the guys we picked up at the deadline, it’s taken them maybe a little bit longer then some might expect for them to come in and assimilate into our lineup, but they (Shimizu, Fabbro, Recine) are starting to get comfortable and are starting to build some chemistry with some of our lines”

After Julien Recine opened the scoring just over two minutes into the game, Ottawa had offensive contributions from a variety of different players including Conor Smart, Josh Shimizu twice, Vincent Velocci, Curtis Fabbro and Michael Eftimovski who scored his 3rd goal of the season and second in as many games.

Next up for the Jr. Senators is a back to back against the Kanata Lasers to end the regular season, Ottawa can finish as high as fourth in the CCHL standings with two wins against Kanata combined with the Hawkesbury Hawks losing both of their remaining games against Brockville and Kemptville. The Jr. Senators can finish as low as 7th in league standings if both the Smiths Falls Bears and Pembroke Lumber Kings win out and OJS loses both games this weekend.

Both games against the Lasers this weekend can be heard on mixlr.com/ojsradio and seen on Hockey TV.
