Jr. Senators win two more games on the road

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Jr. Senators (21-3-2) defeated Cornwall 5-3 on Thursday, and Navan 7-2 on Sunday, to extend their season-high road winning streak to six games.

Thursday – Ottawa 5, Cornwall 3

Ottawa traveled to Cornwall on Thursday night for their fourth meeting of the season vs. the Colts. Ottawa won each of the first three meetings between the two teams, including a 6-2-win on October 9th at the CCHL Showcase, a 3-0 win on November 13th at the Jim Durrell, as well as a 5-2 win on November 18th in Cornwall. Ottawa extended their lead in the season series to 4-0 with a 5-3 victory on Thursday.

Thomas Freel opened the scoring 34-seconds into the first period. The goal extended Freel’s point streak to 7-games, which is tied for the longest point streak by a Junior Senators player this season – which is also held by Freel.

Aaron Shaw tied the score for Cornwall at the 10:49 mark of the first period.

Simon Isabelle would regain the lead for Ottawa at the 16:32 mark, on the powerplay. The goal was Isabelle’s first since October 31st.

Ottawa led Cornwall 2-1 after the first period, outshooting them 13-7.

Cornwall would once again tie the game 1:23 into the second period, via Keanu Krenn’s 7th goal of the season.

Bodie Nobes’ would regain the lead for Ottawa, scoring the team’s second powerplay goal of the game at 11:12 of the second period.

Ottawa led 3-2 after 40-minutes, despite being outshot 15-10 in the second period.

Simon Isabelle extended the lead for Ottawa 5:45 into the third period with his eleventh of the season. The goal completed the hattrick for Ottawa’s powerplay, which went 3-for-3 in the game.

David Maybe scored Ottawa’s 5th goal at 10:56 of the third period. Simon Isabelle collected an assist on the goal, which capped off his four-point game.

Aaron Shaw scored his second of the game at 16:03 to make it a 2-goal game, however, Ottawa would hold on for the 5-3 win.

Ottawa outshot Cornwall 19-6 in the 3rd period and 42-28 in the game.

Felix Schnell made 25 saves on 28 shots, earning his 10th win of the season.

Ottawa went 4-for-5 on the penalty kill and 3-for-3 on the powerplay.

Ottawa will look to complete the season series sweep of Cornwall at home on January 22nd.

Sunday – Ottawa 7, Navan 2

Sunday’s meeting was the third of the season between Ottawa and Navan. Ottawa won the first meeting 3-0 on October 3rd. Navan won 3-2 on November 17th thanks to Ryan Burke’s game-winning goal with only 32 seconds left in regulation. Both games were played at the Jim Durrell Centre.

Ottawa opened the scoring on Sunday with their first shot of the game, courtesy of Julian Recine, 4:52 into the first period.

Ottawa extended their lead to 2-0 with a powerplay goal from Massimo Gentile at 14:52.

Ottawa outshot Navan 8-4 in the first period and took a 2-0 lead into the second period.

Navan would score two quick goals at the start of the second period, 22-seconds apart. Devyn Orpana made it 2-1 at 4:37, and Ryan Burke scored at 4:59.

Ottawa was quick to respond, retaking the lead at 5:38 with Edward Moskowitz’s 8th of the season. The goal would end up being the game-winner, Moskowitz’s 4th game-winner of the season.

Ottawa went on to score 5 unanswered goals, including a Mark MacPhee powerplay goal at 12:11, and a shorthanded goal from Philippe Jacques at 16:48 of the second period.

Ottawa led 5-2 after 40-minutes of play and outshot Navan 16-14 in the middle frame.

Ottawa would hold the 5-2 lead until late in the third period when Mark MacPhee dropped the gloves with Navan’s Alec Lovisek. Both players received 5-minute fighting majors, as well as a game misconduct. Lovisek received an extra 2-minutes for instigating.

Ottawa added a pair of late third-period goals from Wil Murphy and Aidan Cooper. Murphy also recorded 2 assists, earning him his third multi-point game in his last 7 games.

Ottawa outshot Navan 9-7 in the 3rd period and 33-25 in the game.

William Desmarais stopped 23 of 25 shots, improving his record to 11-2 on the season.

Ottawa recorded a season-high 43 penalty minutes. Navan recorded 41 penalty minutes. Ottawa continued their success on the special teams, going 2-for-6 on the powerplay, and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.

The two remaining games in the season series will be played on December 22nd in Ottawa and January 16th in Navan.
