Jr. Senators wrap up season with pair of losses; begin playoffs Wednesday

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Jr. Senators (43-8-4) saw their four-game win streak come to an end Saturday by suffering a 6-1 defeat to Rockland and wrapped up the regular season with a 5-2 loss to Navan.

Saturday – Rockland 6, Ottawa 1

As OJS saw a number of regulars sit out Saturday’s contest, the Nationals came into the JDRC with a purpose, thumping the home side on Saturday afternoon.

Before the game was 15 minutes old, Will Collins, Kyle Leanord, and Yanic Crete had the score 3-0, while OJS wasn’t able to find their mojo offensively past Nats starter Jack McGovern.

On a late powerplay, Simon Isabelle capped off a pretty passing play, firing home his 22nd of the year as the first drew to a close.

In the second, the Nats didn’t let up, seeing Collins score twice to finish off the hat trick, while Alex Frechette had a single in the middle frame.

The second period saw OJS fire a season-low four shots on goal, falling in their final home game of the season.

Collin MacKenzie returned to the OJS crease and was pulled after two, after allowing six goals on 30 shots. Zach Bowen relieved MacKenzie in the third and stopped all 13 fired his way. Nationals starter Jack McGovern turned aside 21.

The Jr. Senators went 1-for-1 on the man advantage while the Nationals went 0-for-4.

Sunday – Navan 5, Ottawa 2

After Jake Code opened the scoring in his final junior regular-season game, Owen Parsons and Jack Cook responded for the hometown Grads in the first.

In the second, Aiden McCarthy, Joseph Ianniello, and a powerplay marker from former Jr. Senators Danyk Drouin blew the game open.

OJS saught out some momentum in the third, ending it on a high – chipping into the lead with Anthony Provost’s 12th of the season on the powerplay, but the comeback fell short as OJS dropped the rubber match of the five-game set to the Grads.

William Desmarais saw action in the first two periods, stopping 33 of 38. Zach Bowen was once again called into action for the third, where he stopped all 10 he faced, while Grads starter Ben West turned aside 50.

The Jr. Senators went 1-for-8 on the man advantage while the Grads went 1-for-3.
