Junior Senators Ink Toporowski

Ottawa – The Ottawa Junior Senators continued their off-season re-tooling by signing forward Matthew Toporowski to a Standard Player Agreement. Toporowski, a native of Kirkland, Quebec spent the last two seasons attending Saint Mark’s Prep School located in Southborough, Massachussetts.

The nineteen year-old Toporowski feels that the Junior Senators style of play will be a fantastic fit for the type of game he likes to play.

“I knew after meeting the coaching staff that they play a fast game and they are an established organization with a great structure and reputation. This is the place where I want to play.”

General Manager/Head Coach Martin Dagenais was looking to add to the squad’s group of forwards and feels good in bringing Toporowski aboard.

“We think Matthew’s skill set will compliment a few of our guys up front.” said Dagenais. “ His coach at Saint Mark’s raved about his work ethic on and off the ice and said he brings a high compete level at practice and during games. Those are the types of things we like to see in our players.”

The former Lac St. Louis Lions product is hoping to combine his skills on the ice and his strong academic background with the exposure of playing in the CCHL to landing an NCAA Division 1 hockey scholarship.

“I am an intense player who likes to play an all-around game and shoot the puck. I’d love to help get this team back to Nationals and eventually play at a Division 1 program,” said Toporowski who is excited to return in August to begin training camp.
