The Ottawa Jr Senators are pleased to announce the signing of 2007-born defender Ben Cornick for the 2025-26 season.
“I’m really excited to get started and get going,” said Cornick. “I really want to see what the season brings.”
Cornick – a Paradies Newfoundland native – is a veteran of the American system. Between 2022 and 2024, he played in the U.S. for the New Hampshire Mountain Kings and Boston Hockey Academy. He was especially successful in New Hampshire, scoring seven goals and 41 assists in 55 games.
As a two-way defender, Cornick focuses on putting up points without sacrificing anything on the defensive side of the game. While he’s always trying to strike a perfect balance between the two sides of the game, he more naturally leans towards the defensive aspects of hockey.
After his time in the United States, the young Newfoundlander captained the Fort Erie Falcons this past season, finishing the year as the second-highest scoring D-man on the roster.
“With the way the game is changing, I want to bring more offensive ability into my arsenal, so I’ve been working on that as well as keeping up with defending,” said Cornick.
He’s a great addition to the very capable D-Corps Ottawa put together last season. With returners like alternate captain Antoine Poirier, Merlin Offman, Justin Mongeon and Adam Gauthier, Cornick will have plenty of opportunity to learn from players who were rookies themselves last year.
Come September, you can expect to see the young, two-way defender lace up the skates for Ottawa as the Jr Sens hit the ice for training camp.
