Moskowitz nets game-winner in season-opening victory

Brockville, ON – After nearly 18 months removed from their last meaningful game, the Ottawa Jr. Senators returned to the ice in style, skating to a 5-4 victory on the road in Brockville Friday night.

Colin Stacey netted a pair in the opening period, while Jackson Hay also found the back of the net for Brockville. Simon Isabelle and Julian Recine scored powerplay goals for Ottawa to get them within one after 20 minutes of action.

In the second, Ottawa’s relentless attack was too much for Brockville to handle as they were able to take their first lead of the season with goals courtesy of Vincent Velocci’s shorty and Julian Recine’s second of the game.

Matt Donovan replied midway into the third to tie the score, setting up a Brockville turnover and a 2-on-0 conversion as Anthony Provost set up Edward Moskowitz for the game-winner with just over five to play in regulation.

In the win, Kyle Makaric picks up his first win as Head Coach of the Ottawa Jr. Senators.

“For good periods of the game, both teams controlled the game,” said Makaric. “From the midway point on, we controlled those pockets more often and that led to an opportunistic play to set up the game winner. Coming from behind, we stuck with it in the third, held of their momentum when they tied it up while holding off their momentum in the process.”

Felix Schnell made 22 stops in the victory, while his Brockville starter Brandon Abbott was pulled after the fourth Ottawa goal as he stopped 16 of 20. Former Ottawa West Golden Knight William McEvoy came on in relief and made 13 of 14 saves.

Ottawa was 2-for-6 on the man advantage while Brockville went 1-for-5.

The Ottawa Jr. Senators return home tomorrow for their home opener against the Nepean Raiders with puck drop scheduled for 7:40 PM. Catch all the action with Davide Disipio, Mason Detre, and Ryan Woods on the Jr. Senators Broadcast Network at Mixlr.com/OJSradio and on Hockey TV.
