OJS continues winning ways, add three more victories

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Jr. Senators (26-3-2) defeated Brockville on Wednesday 6-3, Renfrew on Saturday 3-1, and Nepean 4-2 on Sunday, to extend their season-high winning streak to nine games.

Wednesday – Ottawa 6, Brockville 3

A mid-week clash on home ice didn’t start the prettiest for OJS, as the club found themselves down a pair just 63 seconds in.

The team beared down, answering on the powerplay at the halfway point of the period, as Philippe Jacques tallied his 18th of the year.

Trailing by one headed to the second, Simon Isabelle tied the game a minute and a half into the period. For the first time in 2022, Anthony Provost was back in the lineup and found the back of the net to give the Jr. Senators the lead, beating Sami Molu five-hole.

The pesky line of Jack McDonald, Owen Belisle, and Colin Elliott was a thorn in the OJS defence all night long and tied the score, via McDonald’s first of the year 2:17 into the third.

26 seconds later, Robbie Stewart broke in down the right side and beat Molu, for his first goal in 24 games, putting OJS ahead for good.

Thomas Freel tallied two goals into the empty net, with one coming on a late Braves powerplay for the captain’s 20th and 21st of the season.

William Desmarais made 24 stops in the win, while Braves starter Sami Molu turned aside 24.

The Jr. Senators went 1-for-4 on the man advantage while the Braves went 0-for-5.

Saturday – Ottawa 3, Renfrew 1

Fresh off a victory seven days earlier against the Wolves, the Jr. Sens played a little deja vu at the Ma-Te-Way Activity Centre, scoring their second consecutive win over the Wolves on the season series.

Vincent Velocci returned to the lineup and got his team on the board with his 9th of the season.

As an early surge from the Wolves had OJS on their toes, William Desmarais was rock solid in net, making 11 stops in the frame to keep it a one-goal game. As the period winded down, Julian Recine buried his 12th of the year.

As a fatigued Wolves squad was in the midst of the final period of seven games in their last nine days, Tyson Tomasini got the home side on the board. One of the many bright points on the OJS side applied the icing on the cake, as Massimo Gentile scored his first in four games to pad the lead.

William Desmarais made 33 stops in the win, while Wolves starter Will Craig turned aside 32.

The Jr. Senators went 0-for-6 on the man advantage while the Braves went 0-for-5.

Sunday – Ottawa 4, Nepean 2

On the heels of a back-to-back, OJS traveled down Hunt Club road to take the third game of the season series, doubling up the Nepean Raiders.

Julian Recine and Vincent Velocci tallied goals in the opening 20, which was a much tighter affair than the 14-4 win for OJS on November 28th.

Philippe Jacques’s goal in the second made for his third point of the contest and pushed him ahead on the league leader board.

William Lefebvre got one back for the Raiders on the powerplay halfway through the second. The powerplay goal against was the first surrendered by OJS this month, breaking a 21-21 streak.

The Raiders cut the lead to one, with Owen Hollingsworth’s goal, before Thomas Freel sealed the deal with 42 seconds left.

Zachary Bowen was spectacular, stopping 21 for his first career CCHL win, while Connor Shibley stopped 37 of 40 in the Raider net.

The Ottawa Jr. Senators return to the ice Wednesday night at the Jim Durrell Recreation Complex to face the Pembroke Lumber Kings with puck drop scheduled for 7:20 PM.
