Earlier today, the Ottawa Jr Senators completed a pair of trades, acquiring Hunter Robitaille, the rights to Miller Kay. The moves bolster an Ottawa roster that is currently on a six-game winning streak and a 8-2 record in its last 10 games.
“It’s been a great start to the year,” said GM Pat McCallen. “I’ve been pleased with our compete level right from the get-go. Our coaching staff holds the players to a high standard, but most importantly, the players keep each other accountable and push one another every day.”
The initial trade involved sending a 2026 4th-round pick and a PDF to the Brockville Braves in exchange for Robitaille — a 2005-born forward — and a 2026 12th-round pick. In Robitaille, the Jr Sens gain a proven scorer who will help bolster the Ottawa lineup moving forward.
“Hunter is an experienced, smart player who brings a level of creativity in the offensive zone,” said McCallen. “We believe Hunter will strengthen our forward core as we continue to find ways to produce more offence.”
With one goal and five assists in 13 games playing for Brockville this season, Robitaille is producing at nearly a 0.5 points-per-game pace. He is expected to be in Ottawa’s lineup tonight against the Smiths Falls Bears.
The second trade involved acquiring the rights to 2006-born forward Miller Kay of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar from Carleton Place in exchange for Ottawa 67’s prospect Jordan Perrier. Kay had a breakout campaign with CP last season, scoring 17 goals and 52 points in 49 games. He signed with the QMJHL’s Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the QMJHL this summer and has featured in 11 games in the “Q” this season.
It is unclear whether Kay will suit up for Ottawa this season as he continues to play in the QMJHL. However, as a 2006-born player, he is eligible to return to junior hockey next season. If, for some reason, he left the CHL, Ottawa would hold his rights in the CCHL.
This weekend will be a tough test for Ottawa as they face Smiths Falls tonight on the road before returning to the Jim Durrell Arena on Saturday night to host the undefeated Rockland Nationals. Only time will tell whether the Jr Senators will keep their winning streak alive when challenged with two of the top teams in the CCHL.
The Jr Senators would like to wish Jordan Perrier the best of luck with his new team. We appreciate everything he did as a member of the
