Amherst, N.S. (May 5, 2019) – The Ottawa Jr. Senators are heading back to the National Jr. A Championship with a 9-2 win over the Princeville Titan in the final of the 2019 Fred Page Cup in Amherst on Sunday. Ottawa will now travel to Brooks, Alberta to represent Eastern Canada from May 11th to 19th.
Ottawa took the lead at 12:51 of the 1st period. Darcy Walsh carried the puck along the boards and into the Titan zone. Just before he was sandwiched by a pair of players in front of the Princeville bench he kicked the puck into the open ice. Connor Smart went in on goal unchallenged and his backhand shot beat Titan goaltender Mathieu Bellemare. The Jr. Senators made it 2-0 at 18:10. Danny Pion passed the puck on a 2 on 1 over to Owen Cole who found the back of the net. Shots in the period were 11-4 for Ottawa.
Staring at another berth in the National Jr. A Championship, Ottawa scored four times in the 2nd period to build a 6-0 lead over Princeville. Bellemare stopped a shot to his right, but the puck rolled to Élie Boulerice who made it a 3-0 game at 6:24. Christopher Piché cleaned up a rebound at 8:23 to build a 4-0 lead. Goals from Ethan Manderville on the powerplay at 9:47 and Kyle Jackson at 19:33 would round out the scoring in the period. Shots were 17-9 for the Jr. Senators.
The Titan got on the board early in the 3rd period. Matthew Newbury spun around in the slot and his shot beat Francis Boisvert to make it 6-1 for Ottawa. The Jr. Senators got the goal back at 13:08 as a shot from the point was saved, but Geoffrey Dempster pounced on the rebound for a 7-1 lead. The teams traded goals 18 seconds apart late in the period. Alex Plamondon scored on the powerplay to make it 7-2 at 16:32, but Piché picked up his second goal of the game for an 8-2 advantage at 16:50. Dempster would round out the scoring at 19:03 for Ottawa and the Jr. Senators captured the 2019 Fred Page Cup with a 9-2 victory over Princeville. Shots were 35-32 for Ottawa. Players of the game were Connor Smart of the Jr. Senators and William Bergeron for the Titan.

Coupe Fred Page : Ottawa conserve son titre de champion
Amherst, N.-É. (5 mai 2019) – Les Sénateurs d’Ottawa ont mérité leur laissez-passer pour un autre championnat national junior A grâce à un gain de 9 à 2 contre le Titan de Princeville lors de la finale de la coupe Fred Page disputé dimanche à Amherst. Ottawa sera à Brooks, en Alberta, du 11 au 19 mai, afin de défendre l’honneur de l’Est canadien.
Ottawa a pris les devants à 12:51 du premier engagement. Darcy Walsh s’est amené le long de la rampe jusque dans la zone du Titan. Avant d’être pris en sandwich par deux joueurs de Princeville, il a poussé la rondelle avec un patin jusqu’à son coéquipier Connor Smart qui a battu le gardien du Titan, Mathieu Bellemare, d’un tir du revers. Les Sénateurs ont doublé leur avance à 2-0 à 18:10. Lors d’un deux contre un, Danny Pion a remis la rondelle à Owen Cole qui l’a logée derrière le gardien. Ottawa a décoché 11 tirs contre 4 pour Princeville.
Avec le championnat canadien dans la mire, Ottawa y est allé de quatre buts sans réplique en deuxième pour se forger une avance de 6 à 0. Bellemare a stoppé un tir à sa droite, mais Élie Boulerice s’est emparé du retour pour faire 3 à 0 à 6:24. Christopher Piché a ensuite profité d’un rebond pour porter la marque à 4 à 0 à 8:23. Des buts d’Ethan Manderville en avantage numérique, à 9:47, et de Kyle Jackson, à 19 33, venaient clore le pointage en deuxième période au cours de laquelle les Sénateurs ont eu l’avantage 17-9 dans les tirs.
Le Titan s’est éveillé tôt au troisième vingt. Matthew Newbury s’est retourné rapidement dans l’embouchure pour décocher un tir qui a battu le gardien Francis Boisvert. La marque était alors de 6 à 1 pour Ottawa. Les Sénateurs ont rebondi à 13:08 grâce au but de Geoffrey Dempster qui s’est emparé d’un retour d’un tir de la pointe. Ottawa creusait l’écart à 7-1. Les deux formations se sont échangé un but dans un intervalle de 18 secondes tard en troisième. Alex Plamondon a fait 7 à 2 lors d’une attaque à cinq à 16:32. Mais Piché a répliqué à 16:50 avec son deuxième filet de la rencontre pour porter la marque à 8-2. Dempster a mis un terme au cauchemar du Titan en marquant le 9e but d’Ottawa à 19:03. Les Sénateurs l’ont emporté facilement 9 à 2. Ottawa a dominé 35-32 au chapitre des tirs. Connor Smart (Sénateurs) et William Bergeron (Titan) ont mérité le titre de joueurs par excellence de la rencontre.
