Ottawa leads Bogart Cup Finals 3-1 after a shutout victory

Ottawa, Ontario – The Ottawa Jr. Senators are now one win away from their second straight Bogart Cup after they defeated the Carleton Place Canadians, 2-0, on Friday night at the Jim Durrell Sports Complex.

Francis Boisvert made 32-saves for his third shutout of the post-season, while Darcy Walsh (3rd) and Kyle Jackson (6th) scored to help Ottawa take a 3-1 series lead.

Ottawa opened the scoring early in the first period. Darcy Walsh fired the puck into the open net after Canadians defenseman Brett Thorne made a no look pass, which ended up on the Jr. Senators captain’s stick.

Then Kyle Jackson scored off a tie-up at the left-circle. He shot the puck on goal, and Connor Murphy had the puck go off his glove and into the cage.

The pivotal moment in the game was in the final few minutes of the second period. Carleton Place had a five-on-three power play and did not score. Ottawa Jr. Senators Head Coach Martin Dagenais said the penalty kill was huge.

“If they could get one or two goals, it’s a new game. But to give them nothing on the five-on-three was a boost of confidence for us (Ottawa). I thought we did a good job shutting them down and I thought we had good D-zone (defensive-zone) coverage.”

Overall, Ottawa’s penalty kill went six-for-six in the win. They now improve their PK to 90.7 % in the playoffs and to 94.4 % in the series.

Dagenais says that goaltender Francis Boisvert was the main difference in the game.

“He was good, especially in the first period. I don’t think he was tested much in the second but he made two or three big saves in the first. At the end when they (Carleton Place) had six-on-five advantage, he made two or three more big saves. He’s in his zone right now and we’re feeding off of that.”

Boisvert improves to 11-2 in the playoffs with a 1.42 GAA / .945 SV %.

With an day-off today (Saturday) the Ottawa Jr. Senators will hit the ice on Sunday afternoon (April 21st) in Carleton Place at 3:00 p.m., where they will look to win their second straight Bogart Cup, and their fifth in franchise history.
