Ottawa sweeps Smiths Falls to move on

Smiths Falls, ON – The Ottawa Jr. Senators were able to sweep the Smiths Falls Bears in game four to move onto the Bogart Cup Semi-Finals.

Smiths Falls would get off to a great start on a 3-on-2 rush, which was started by Owen Watson and was able to feed Brody Fournier on the tap-in. Ottawa allowed the first goal of the game for the first time all series.

It didn’t faze them after all. Jake Code would tie the game on two shot attempts and then David Mabey set up Provost for a one-timer goal, which gave Ottawa a 2-1 lead.

OJS would take control of the second period. After Simon Isabelle got a double minor for high sticking to end the first, Ottawa responded very well with Bodie Nobes burying his second of the series. Ottawa would score their sixth shorthanded goal in the playoffs.

Smiths Falls would run into penalty trouble and Ottawa was able to score two power-play goals from Philippe Jacques and Thomas Freel. Sam Edwards scored on a buzzer-beater, giving OJS four goals in the second period.

Ottawa would keep control throughout the remainder of the third period and would complete the sweep. The last time Ottawa swept an opponent in the playoffs was against Brockville in the 2019 playoffs.

Zachary Bowen made his first CCHL playoff start and made 30 saves. Will McEvoy made 21 saves before being pulled with 10:15 left in the second. Dalton McBride came in relief and had 18 saves.

Ottawa outshot Smiths Falls 45-31 and went 2-for-6 on the power play while Smiths Falls went 0-for-7 on the power play. OJS would finish the series by not allowing a power-play goal.
