Brockville: 5 – Ottawa: 1
Last night, the Ottawa Jr Senators suffered their third road loss of the season to the Brockville Braves.
The Jr Sens headed into the Brockville Memorial Centre with a lot of confidence after their 5-3 win in Cornwall the night before and already having beaten the Braves 3-2 in a shootout two weeks ago.
The Braves oppened up the scoring ten minutes in, with a slot shot from Aiden Carolan making it’s way past Josh Scully for his first goal of the season. Ten minutes later, last week’s CCHL player of the week, Peter Legostaev, gets around both Ottawa defensemen and forces the puck through Scully for his eighth goal of the season, giving Brockville the 2-0 lead heading into intermission.
40 seconds after getting back on the ice and with Ottawa’s Ben Kozyra in the penalty box, Legostaev gets free in the slot and pots his ninth goal in five games. Around the nine minute mark of the second, with OJS on the penalty kill and Legostaev looking for the hat trick, Ottawa’s ClĂ©ment Valette chases a dump-in and steal the puck from Braves goaltender Austin Kaley behind his net and places it into the empty cage for his fourth goal in four games.
That didn’t slow down Brockville’s offence as the puck spent most of the third period in Ottawa’s zone. Scully held on strong until Carolan got free on a breakaway, missed but got a second chance with a penatly shot awarded after a Merlin Offman slash. Carolan capitalized and th game started to feel out of reach for the Jr Sens.
Kayden Buller potted an extra insurance goal to make the game 5-1. OJS falls back fourth place in the Yzerman division ahead of their tenth game of the season against the Navan Grads at Fred Barett Arena. Puck drop is sceduled for 3:45 tomorow.
