Ross, Brennan, and Taylor commit to OJS

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Jr. Senators are pleased to announce the signings of forwards Braxton Ross, Tomislav Brennan, and James Taylor for the 2021-2022 CCHL season.

“Taylor, Brennan, and Ross earned their spot on our opening day roster,” said Jr. Senators General Manager and Associate Coach Jamie Mayo. “They have worked hard on improving certain areas in their game and will bring some energy and enthusiasm to the hockey club.”

Ross, 16, appeared in five official HEO u18 scrimmage games in 2020-2021 with the OJS u18 squad putting up three goals and four assists. A sixth-round pick of the Erie Otters in this past OHL Draft, the Kanata native played his minor hockey with Myers AAA, scoring 19 times and adding 27 assists in all of 21 games in his Major Bantam year. With Myers AAA in 2018-19, Ross lead the league with 28 goals on route to a league championship. He joined the Jr. Senators organization in the 2020 Bantam Protect Draft, where he was taken 20th overall.

Brennan, 16, is another product of the OJS u18 program where he put up three goals and an assist in five official games last season. The Owen Sound Attack ninth-round pick in the 2021 OHL Draft was a star offensively with the Ottawa Jr, 67’s AAA program, playing alongside former OJS first-round protect and now Soo Greyhound Justin Cloutier. In 25 games with the Jr. 67’s during the 2018-2019 season, the Ottawa native netted 18 goals and tallied 13 assists. He heard his name called by the Jr. Senators in the fourth round in the 2020 Bantam Protect Draft.

Taylor, 17, spent the last two seasons with Steve Malette and the Jr. Senators u18 program playing in a total of 45 games. The 6’6 215-pound centre brings a large presence down the middle of the ice, after scoring four goals and 14 assists in his only full u18 season in 2019-2020. An All-Star for the Yzerman Division at the 2020 HEO u18 All-Star Game, Taylor cracked AAA in 2019-2020 after spending the previous two seasons in AA with the Ottawa Sting and call-up to the Ottawa Jr. 67’s. The Oshawa Generals 13th round pick in 2020 put up 54 points in 55 career games at the AA level but emerged in the playoffs as a call-up scoring four points in eight games. He was welcomed to the Jr. Senators organization in the sixth round of the 2019 Bantam Protect Draft.

“I am looking forward to watching the young players mature and grow over the next few years and be the next wave of leaders on the ice for our organization,” added Mayo. “The fact that three players have moved up from our AAA team is a testament to our dedicated and hard-working U18 Coaching Staff lead by Steve Malette. They have done an unbelievable job in preparing our kids to be ready to play at the Junior A level.”

Fresh off their overtime victory in the championship game of the inaugural Cottage Cup Showcase, the Jr. Senators open up the 2021-2022 CCHL season on the road, taking on the Brockville Braves. Catch all the action on Hockey TV and the Jr. Senators Broadcast Network at Mixlr.com/OJSradio.
