Wil Murphy set to make jump to CCHL

Ottawa – Martin Dagenais and the Ottawa Jr. Senators organization are proud to welcome another piece for the future with the signing of defenceman Wil Murphy.

The 5’11, 180 lbs creative minded blueliner spent last season with the Greater Kingston Frontenacs where he totaled 11 goals, 18 assists for 29 points in 33 games in the OMHA – ETA U18 league and will now move onto the nation’s capital to pursue his junior hockey career.

“We spoke with Coach Dagenais back in the spring around the potential of playing in Ottawa this coming season and everything Ottawa had to offer, said Murphy. OJS has a great reputation as a hockey program and a proven winner.  It seemed like a great fit in a great city.”

Murphy who hails from Gananoque, Ontario was selected by the Erie Otters in the 5th round, 86th overall in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection, brings a strong toolset to an Ottawa defensive core who will be starting the season with eight new rearguards.

“I am a hard-working defenseman who enjoys playing in all three zones, but I really enjoy joining the rush to create opportunities, noted Murphy. I also realize I need to continue to be responsible and dependable in the defensive zone in order to become a more well-rounded defenseman.”

After appearing in two games as an affiliate with the OJHL’s Wellington Dukes last season, Murphy is looking to adjust to a new city and new league while keeping an open mind for what could come after life in the CCHL.

“Short term goals consist of settling into and getting comfortable with the program and the league, learning and continuing to develop on and office the ice,” added Murphy. Long term, I would like to continue to pursue hockey at the next level, whether it be in the OHL or in the NCAA.”
