FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Jr. Senators are proud to announce the commitment of forward Vincent Velocci to the NCAA DIII Amherst College (Amherst, Massachusetts) for the 2023-2024 season.
Velocci, 20, is currently the longest-serving member of the Jr. Senators after joining the club in 2019.
The Toronto native has set many career-highs this season, eclipsing 56 points (14 goals, 42 assists) in 49 games. Over a 140-game CCHL career, Velocci has totaled 40 goals and 73 assists, for a total of 113 points. During the 2022 Bogart Cup run, Velocci recorded nine points (eight goals, one assist) in 13 games. At the Centennial Cup, Velocci recorded a goal in four games.
“At 17, I left my family and friends to play for OJS,” explained Velocci. “Everyone from the players and coaches to my billet family welcomed me with open arms. After four years of hard work and dedication, I can say that I am a champion and a leader on a top Canadian Jr. A team. OJS took a chance on me, and for that I will always be grateful. The OJS coaches and staff, along with my teammates over the years helped me develop not only as a player but as a person. I’m thrilled to be joining Amherst College and continuing my athletic and academic journey.”
A two-way forward who plays the right way, Velocci hasn’t shy’d away from physical play over the course of his hockey career. In his final few seasons of minor hockey, Velocci spent time with the Toronto Red Wings and Don Mills Flyers.
Velocci becomes the second member of the 2022-2023 Junior Senators to commit to a post-junior program, joining Owen Protz (Sudbury Wolves).
