OJS SIGN RANVIR GILL

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Junior Senators are pleased to announce the signing of 16 year old defenseman Ranvir Gill who spent last season with the team’s Midget AAA club.

The 6’3, 190 lbs rearguard who was drafted in the second round of last year’s CCHL draft is also a 4th round draft pick of the Ottawa 67’s of the OHL.

“I remember being nervous on the day of the CCHL draft because I didn’t know which team I was being drafted to. I initially thought that I was going to be drafted by Kanata as they were losing a lot of defensemen, but I was very happy to find out that I was coming to the best organization in the CCHL.”

The young defenseman who credits his father for his success in hockey will be the second 16 year old in as many years to play with the Junior Senators.

“I personally think that my age will not matter when it comes to my impact at this level. I think I can help this team in different ways, whether its with the puck or not.”

Gill still hasn’t made a final decision on where he’ll play as a 17 year old. Right now, both the OHL and the NCAA are options for him. But for this year, he’ll be focus on helping the Junior Senators win a third consecutive championship.

“My goal this year is to win the Bogart Cup as I think we will have a team good enough to win again. My long term goal is to be able to play professionally, or to have my hockey career take me into another profession.”

Gill and the rest of the Ottawa Jr. Senators will report for training camp on Wednesday, August 21st at the JR Brisson Complex in Casselman. The regular season is set to open on the second weekend of September.
