Provost stars as OJS picks up pair of wins

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Jr. Senators (38-5-4) rode the momentum of Tuesday’s victory in the Heron Gate Community Game into wins on Wednesday over Smiths Falls and Saturday over Nepean.

Wednesday – Ottawa 4, Smiths Falls 1

Following a back and forth first period, OJS dictated most of the play and scored the only goal. Simon Isabelle split the defence, leading to a full ice 2-on-1, feeding Thomas Freel who converted for his league-leading 30th tally on the season.

In the second, the highlight real goals focus in on Sam Edwards, as in the midst of a line change, the Ottawa native was able to keep the puck in at the Smits Falls line, then made several nice moves and roofed it over the shoulder of starter Dalton McBride to double the lead just over seven minutes into the second.

Lleyton McLean cut the lead in half just over four minutes later, redirecting home the point shot past William Desmarais. 16 seconds later, OJS stormed over the line and Simon Isabelle buried his 20th of the year. On the goal, rookie defenceman Sam Grabner recorded his first point in the CCHL.

As Smiths Falls looked to answer in the third, the defensive play of OJS was a story, limiting offensive chances, and keeping the lead intact. As time slowly expired, Anthony Provost blocked a crucial shot in his own end, leading to a breakout and Julian Recine burying the empty netter to seal the win.

Desmarais stopped 30 in the OJS net for the win, while his counterpart, Dalton McBride made 30 saves.

The Jr. Senators went 0-for-2 on the man advantage while the Bears went 0-for-6.

Saturday – Ottawa 6, Nepean 1

Looking for a response on their 4-3 OTL earlier in the month to Nepean, OJS had their work cut out for them as they conceded the opening goal just over five minutes into the contest.

From there, it was all OJS with Massimo Gentile, Bodie Nobes, and Anthony Provost finding the back of the net through 20.

In the second, Gentile and Provost found the back of the net yet again to have the game well out of hand after 40. For Provost, he now has three goals and two assists over his last three games.

Julian Recine found the back of the net for a third straight game to cap off the scoring and the team’s third win streak of at least six wins or more this season.

William Desmarais stopped 16 in the OJS net for the win, while Connor Shibley made 41 saves.

The Jr. Senators went 0-for-4 on the man advantage while the Raiders went 0-for-3.

The Ottawa Jr. Senators return to the ice this afternoon at 2:30 to face the Kemptville 73’s. Catch all the action with Davide Disipio on the Jr. Senators Broadcast Network at Mixlr.com/OJSradio and on Hockey TV.
