Strong second period sparks Jr. Senators first victory of 2022

Ottawa, ON – In their first game in 52 days, the Jr. Senators tallied three-second period goals to skate away with a 3-2 victory Wednesday over Hawkesbury, improving to a league-best 22-3-2.

Following a slow opening 20 minutes, the Jr. Senators were lucky to find themselves only down a goal. After allowing numerous odd-man rushes, the team backstopped by a strong performance from William Desmarais.

Jackson Kirk’s centering pass after a missed assignment in the Jr. Senators zone found Jeremy Tremblay in the slot who buried the only goal of the period to have the visitors up one after the first.

In the second, the home side found some life converting on two powerplays, which proved to be the turning point. Simon Isabelle’s 12th of the year tied the score just over a minute into the period, converting on the wraparound try to beat Hawks starter Dimitri Pelekos, who made life miserable on a few occasions Wednesday night.

Bodie Nobes gave OJS the lead near the halfway point of the game, slipping home his sixth of the year, then 49 seconds later, Thomas Freel’s 18th of the season made it a two-goal game.

Josh Spratt replied with under seven to play before things got chippy in the dying moments of the game, with Vincent Velocci leaving the game with an injury.

William Desmarais made 26 stops in the win, while Hawks starter Dimitri Pelekos turned aside 28.

The Jr. Senators went 2-for-6 on the man advantage while the Hawks went 0-for-4.

The Ottawa Jr. Senators return to the ice Saturday night at the Jim Durrell Recreation Complex to face the Renfrew Wolves with puck drop scheduled for 7:40 PM. Catch all the action with Davide Disipio, and Ryan Woods on the Jr. Senators Broadcast Network at Mixlr.com/OJSradio and on Hockey TV.
