Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Jr. Senators took down the Brockville Braves 5-3 on Saturday night at the Jim Durrell Sports Complex.

Brent Broaders, Vincent Velocci, Conor Smart and Thomas Freel all found the back of the net in a high scoring affair.

Ottawa jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Broaders and Velocci but the Braves stormed back with 3 consecutive goals in the 2nd period to take a 3-2 lead, before Thomas Freel evened the game up at the 17:16 mark of the 2nd period.

Freel added his 2nd of the game on the power play early in the 3rd before Conor Smart scored his 1st goal of the season as an insurance marker just over 5 minutes into the 3rd, which sealed the game for Ottawa.

Josh Ward stopped 29 of 32 shots that he faced in his 3rd win of the 2019/20 season.

Jr. Senators Assistant Coach Jamie Mayo was impressed with the teams special teams in the win.

“I thought our special teams carried us tonight” said Mayo. “We scored 3 on the power play and when it was tied we killed off 3 penalties in the 3rd period and I think that was the difference”

The Jr. Senators will be right back in action tomorrow as they head on the road to Navan to take on the Grads.
