Ottawa falls to Cornwall, 6-3

Cornwall, Ontario – The Ottawa Jr. Senators (3-5) fall to the Cornwall Colts (3-6) at the Ed Lumley Arena on Thursday night.

Ottawa allowed three unanswered goals in the third period after being tied with the Colts, 2-2 after two.

Tristan Poissant gave Cornwall the 3-2 lead just 4:44 into the third. Josh Barnes was sprung on an odd-man rush and fed Poissant a pass that went off Noah Rowe’s skate and deflected to his stick for a breakaway goal.

In the last ten minutes of the final frame, Henry Bishop beat goaltender Francis Boisvert with a point shot. Connor Amsley made it 5-2 when he scored a controversial goal. Head Coach Martin Dagenais asked the referees to talk about the goal after the Cornwall forward batted above the crossbar.

The Jr. Senators and Colts would each trade goals towards the end of the period before the final buzzer.

In the loss, Conor Smart scored his first goal of the season and added an assist.

Ottawa outshot Cornwall 41-34. The Jr. Sens are now 2-2 when recording 30 shots or more in a game. It is also their first loss against the Yzerman Division.

The Ottawa Jr. Senators next game is tomorrow night against the Hawkesbury Hawks.
